Home & Navigation

Launch screen

The home screen is a plain list — tap a row to open that tool. The gear icon in the top-right corner is a separate destination: app-wide Settings, covered later.

RowWhat it's for
CalculatorEveryday arithmetic, just like the stock app.
Graphing CalculatorKeypad and graph together on one screen, plus Y= functions, tables, and matrices on their own tabs.
Polygon SolverRight triangles, regular & irregular shapes, cut lists.
Financial CalculatorsTVM, amortization, interest, break-even, and five more.
Unit ConverterLength, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed.
Statistics CalculatorMean, median, std dev, linear regression.

The Graphing Calculator opens full-screen with its own tab bar and a back arrow in the top-left; everything else pushes onto the home screen's own back-stack. Either way, the back arrow returns you here.

The free version of the app shows a banner ad along the bottom of the home screen and the Graphing Calculator, and may occasionally show a full-screen ad when you open a calculator.

Basic Calculator

Home → Calculator

A plain four-function calculator that behaves like the stock iOS app — no operator precedence. 2 + 3 × 4 computes left to right as each key is pressed, landing on 20, not 14. Keys: AC/C +/− % ÷, digits 7–9 with ×, 4–6 with −, 1–3 with +, then a double-wide 0, ., and =.

Expression trail

Above the big result, a smaller line shows the calculation the way you entered it (for example 12 + 8 ×), so you can see how you got to the running total.

History

Every press of = adds an entry — the expression and its result — to a scrolling history above the display. The full-clear AC wipes the screen and the history; C clears only the entry in progress. This history is separate from the Graphing Calculator's.

Percent

After + or −, % means a percentage of the running total (200 + 10 % adds 20). Otherwise it simply divides the entry by 100.

Graphing Calculator

Home → Graphing Calculator

The app's one full calculator: a live graph above a keypad on one screen, with five tabs along the bottom — Calc Y= Table Matrix Settings. Functions, variables, and matrices are shared across all five — graph something on Y= and it's already there when you switch to Table. It opens full-screen; the back arrow in the top-left returns you home.

Calc

graph, entry line & keypad together

Function vs. Calculate

A segmented switch above the entry line picks its job. In Calculate mode, ENTER evaluates the expression and logs it, with its result and timestamp, to the history above the entry line. In Function mode, chevrons beside the slot name (e.g. "Y1") cycle through all ten slots, and a colored dot sets that slot's color and line style; ENTER commits the expression to the slot, auto-enables it, and re-graphs — confirmed with "Y1 = … — graphed".

Top-bar controls

  • CALC (left) — curve analysis, described below.
  • AC — clears the entry line, all ten Y= functions, and the history. (The keypad's C only clears the entry line.)
  • ⋯ Graph Tools — Zoom presets, Zoom In / Zoom Out, and Window.
  • Graph Display (eye icon) — Hide Graph gives the history and keypad the whole screen; Show Graph is the split view; Full-Screen Graph hides the keypad (Trace moves into the ⋯ menu).

Landscape layout

With the device turned sideways (iPhone or iPad), the graph moves to the left and the right side holds a larger calculation window above a taller keypad pinned to the bottom. On a small phone the right side scrolls if the keys don't fit. Turn it off with Split Graph and Keypad in the Settings tab to keep the stacked layout.

Keypad styles

Choose Classic or Scientific on the Settings tab. Both do the same things.

  • Classic — compact keys; a softkey row, a four-way arrow pad with VARS x C ⌫ beside it, trig/log/power keys, and the four operators in a right-hand column ending in ENTER.
  • Scientific — taller keys, with the arrow keys alongside the operators.

Y= WIN ZOOM TRACE MATH are the softkeys: Y= switches to Function mode, WIN opens the Window sheet, ZOOM opens the zoom menu, TRACE toggles trace, MATH opens the Math menu.

Other keys

STO→ evaluates whatever's on the entry line, then asks which letter (A–Z) to store it under, and logs expr→X to history. VARS opens the same letter list to recall a value — tap a letter to insert it; swipe a variable to clear just that one. ANS inserts the last answer, EE enters scientific notation, x² and x⁻¹ insert ^2 and ^(-1), and ⌫ deletes one character.

Errors, inline

Typed and specific — "Division by zero", "Undefined: X", "ln( domain is x > 0" — shown right under the entry line, never a silent wrong answer.

The graph

pan, zoom, window, trace

Every enabled Y-slot is plotted in its own color, with gaps automatically broken at asymptotes and undefined stretches. Gridlines self-space to roughly 50px apart unless you've set a scale manually.

  • Drag to pan; pinch to zoom.
  • Arrow keys — with Trace off, each tap nudges the window 10% of the visible range, a touch-friendlier alternative to drag-panning.
  • Zoom menu: Standard (−10…10 both axes, step 1), Trig (−2π…2π by −4…4, step π/2; −360…360 in degree mode), Square (rescales one axis so circles look round), Decimal (−4.7…4.7 by −3.1…3.1), plus Zoom In and Zoom Out (×1.5 around the center).
  • Window sheet: type exact Xmin/Xmax/Xscl and Ymin/Ymax/Yscl. Entering a scale switches that axis to manual spacing.
  • Trace: shows a crosshair with a live x=… y=… readout and the slope (or "undefined"). With Trace on, ◀ ▶ step along the curve and ▲ ▼ switch between enabled functions at the same x.

CALC menu

analyze the traced function

Acts on whichever function is being traced, or the first enabled one if Trace is off. The result lands on the graph as a trace point.

  • Value — type an x, press ENTER, and read y.
  • Zero — finds a root near the current trace point.
  • Minimum / Maximum — finds a local extremum near the trace point. If it finds the other kind (or a flat critical point), it says so rather than mislabeling it.
  • Intersect — finds where the traced function meets another enabled one (needs two enabled functions).

Y=

10 function slots, shared with Calc & Table

Exactly ten rows, Y1 through Y9 then Y0. Each has an enable toggle, an expression field ("expression in x"), and a color dot that opens a menu for Color (Cyan, Teal, Slate, Steel, Mint, Indigo, Amber, White) and Line Style (Solid, Dashed, Dotted).

Table

values for every enabled function

An infinite-scrolling table of x-values from TblStart, stepping by ΔTbl, one column per enabled Y-function ("—" where undefined). It auto-extends 25 rows further as you scroll toward an edge. The settings sheet edits TblStart/ΔTbl (ΔTbl can't be 0).

Matrix

named [A]–[Z], with a full operations sheet

Create a matrix with + (starts as 2×2 zeros, auto-named to the next free letter); swipe to delete. Opening one gives independent row/column steppers (1–6 each) and a grid of fields — resizing keeps overlapping values and zero-fills the rest.

The Operations sheet covers A + B, A − B, A × B, k × A, Aᵀ, det(A), and A⁻¹, with a "Store As New [X]" button to keep the result as its own matrix.

Settings

this tab's own settings — see the note below

Angle: RAD / DEG, affecting every trig function (and the Trig zoom preset). Keypad Layout: Classic or Scientific. Landscape → Split Graph and Keypad: on by default; shows the graph and keypad side by side in landscape. Plus "Clear History" and "Clear All Variables."

Heads up — two settings screens

This Settings tab (Angle mode, keypad layout, clear data) is only inside the Graphing Calculator. The gear icon on the home screen opens a different screen for Appearance and custom colors. Look for Angle and Keypad Layout here, not there.

Math menu

MATH key — on the Calc tab
  • Inserts solve(, nDeriv(, or nInt( templates for you to fill in.
  • solve(expr, guess) — numeric root-finder near guess (safeguarded Newton's method, falling back to bisection).
  • nDeriv(expr, x0) — numeric derivative at a point (central difference).
  • nInt(expr, a, b) — numeric definite integral (adaptive Simpson's rule).
  • Simplify Entry — folds constants and basic identities (x+0→x, x·1→x, x·0→0). Not a full CAS: it won't expand, factor, or combine like terms.
  • A direct link into the Polygon Solver.
Expression syntax reference (functions, constants, variables)

Works the same everywhere an expression is typed: the Calc entry line, Y=, and the arguments of solve/nDeriv/nInt.

CategoryDetails
Operators+ − × ÷ ^ (right-associative power), unary minus binds looser than ^ so −2^2 = −4, and implicit multiplication (2x, 3(4+5)).
Functionssin cos tan asin acos atan sinh cosh tanh ln log sqrt abs exp nthroot(x, n)
Domainsln & log need x>0 (log is base-10); sqrt needs x≥0; asin/acos need [−1, 1]; nthroot allows negative x only for an odd root.
Constantspi, e. Scientific notation uses capital E only (2E3 = 2000) — a lowercase e after digits is read as multiplying by Euler's number.
VariablesSingle letters A–Z (via STO→/VARS), plus ans (last result) and x (graph/table/trace/solve/nDeriv/nInt).

Polygon Solver

Home → Polygon Solver

Three modes on one segmented switch: Regular, Irregular, Triangle. Built for fabrication — every result comes with a material-thickness offset and a shareable cut list.

What Inside / Center / Outside means

Every shape here is really a loop of material of some Thickness — boards, trim, sheet stock. Reference tells the solver which face you actually measured: the piece's inner edge, its centerline, or its outer edge. Enter the length you measured against that boundary, and the solver reports matching measurements for all three — the offset simply follows each corner's angle bisector by half the thickness.

Regular

3–8 equal sides

Pick Sides (3–8), a Reference, a Side Length, and a Thickness. Solve reports the Interior angle, Central angle, and the woodworking Miter angle (half the central angle — 45° for a 4-sided box, 30° for a hexagon), then full Inside/Center/Outside measurement cards: side length, apothem, circumradius, perimeter, area, and every diagonal.

Irregular

3–8 sides, any lengths and angles

A live preview redraws as you type each side's length — dashed while incomplete, solid once it closes. For a triangle, the preview's angles are computed automatically from its three lengths, before you even press Solve.

You don't have to type every angle

Side lengths alone leave exactly three degrees of freedom short of a fully determined shape — a triangle needs 0 angles typed in, a quadrilateral 1, a pentagon 2, up through an octagon's 5. Leave the rest blank and Solve fills them in.

Point Out / Point In

Because of that same flexibility, the same lengths can generically close into two valid shapes: one where every corner points outward (convex), or one with a corner folded inward instead (a dart, or the pinch of a bowtie). The Corners switch — Point Out / Point In — picks which family Solve searches. If you've already typed in a reflex angle (over 180°) yourself, that overrides the switch automatically — you've already told it the shape isn't convex.

Triangle

right triangles, solve from any 2 knowns

Five fields — sides a, b, c (hypotenuse), and angles A, B. Fill in any two, as long as at least one is a side (two angles alone aren't enough, since A + B is always 90°) — Solve fills in the rest.

Cut lists & saved shapes

Regular and Irregular only

Once solved, the toolbar's Cut List button generates a plain-text, per-piece breakdown — miter angles for Regular, end angles for each Irregular piece — with a Share sheet for AirDrop, email, or printing. Saved Shapes lets you name and store the current inputs, and reload any saved shape later, including switching modes automatically.

TVM sign convention

Standard time-value-of-money rules apply: money received is positive, money paid out is negative. A $200,000 loan is a positive PV; the payments you make against it are negative PMT. Leave exactly one of the five fields blank — Solve fills it in and rewrites all five to stay consistent.

More on Debt-to-Income ratings
Back-end ratioRatingMeaning
≤ 36%GoodTypically qualifies for most loan types.
36–43%ModerateMay still qualify, depending on the lender.
43–50%HighAbove the qualified-mortgage threshold — harder to qualify.
> 50%Very HighMost lenders consider this too much debt.

Unit Converter

Home → Unit Converter

Pick a category, then a "From" and "To" unit — type in either field and the other recomputes live. Switching the "To" unit re-derives its value from "From" (never overwrites what you actually typed); switching category resets both pickers to that category's first two units.

Statistics Calculator

1-Var

one list of numbers

Type numbers separated by commas, spaces, or new lines. Reports n, Sum, Mean, Median, Mode (every value tied for most frequent, or "none"), Min, Max, Range, then Population & Sample standard deviation and variance.

2-Var

paired X and Y lists

Two lists, same count. Runs a linear regression and reports the fit as "y = mx + b", plus Slope, Intercept, Correlation (r), and r².

Settings & Custom Colors

Home → gear icon

Choose Appearance — System, Light, or Dark — then toggle Use Custom Colors to replace the built-in palette with your own, applied everywhere regardless of the system's light or dark mode. A live preview mock calculator updates as you go.

Colors

Background, Screen Background, Screen Text, then a background color for each of four key families — Number, Operator, Function, Utility — and Enter/Accent.

Key Text Colors

A separate foreground color per key family, kept independent from its background — useful if a light custom background would otherwise wash out the default white key labels.

Reset to Default restores the built-in dark cyan theme at any time.

At the bottom of this screen you'll also find links to this User Guide and the app's website (and, in the free version, a link to the ad-free app).

Keyboard Tips

Fields that only take digits use a numeric keypad, which — unlike the full keyboard — has no built-in Return key. Look for a small keyboard-with-a-down-arrow icon in the navigation bar to dismiss it. Fields that can hold a negative number (TVM's PV/PMT/FV, Margin %) use the full keyboard instead, so a minus sign stays reachable.
